The History book on the shelf, is always repeating itself!

Serena walked into the library , where she was supposed to meet Mr. Fletcher. It's not like she hadn't been tutored before, why did she feel so nervous. She scanned the room until she found him and made her way over to the table. "Hi." She greeted as she took a seat and placed her books on the table.

Chris looked up at her with a smile. "Hey Serena. I was wondering if you were going to make it or not. Have a seat." He began to open one of the books that was on the table. I was thinking we could start with whatever time period is giving you trouble and work from there."

"That would probably be all of them.' She blushed. "I'm not very good at remembering dates and places, and weird names of European leaders."

Chris nodded, "Alright. Well, your next test is going to be on World War I. How about we start with that?" He flipped the book open to the chapter that they were going to be looking at.

"It started because of that assasination, right?" Serena asked.

Chris nodded, "Yeah. Do you remember who was assassinated or what their title was? Maybe what country they were from?"

"Hmm,' She thought for a minute biting her bottom lip.' Austria? Oh - I think theres a band with his name.. Franz Ferdinand?"

Chris laughed slightly, "Good way of remembering. Yes, it was Archduke Ferdinand. And yes, he was the leader of Austria. See, you don't need my help. You're doing fine all by yourself."

"Miss Hastings doesn't seem to think so.' She said and quickly wrote something in her notes.

"Do tests trip you up?" He asked. "I was never really a good test taker. I was always better with papers. Sometimes, if you're better at one than the other, a teacher will put more weight on the paper than the test or vice versa."

"I guess it could be something like that." Serena shrugged. "I just get bored with studying."

Chris nodded slowly, trying to think of a possible solution. "Do you like to read? Like fiction and stuff?"

"On a rainy day." Serena laughed. "Why?"

"Try reading historical fiction from the time period you're studying. Then, anytime you see something about that time period that might interest you, write it down and look it up. Familiarize yourself with the time period before hand, that way, when you're reading the book, it's like you're actually there." He said with a shrug. "Worked for my sister."

"You have a sister?' She asked, clearly more interested in him than her text book. "How old is she?"

"Her name is Emily and she's fourteen. She goes to a boarding school up in Connecticut." He told her. "She really likes it up there."

"What school? I spent my last semester of sophomore year at boarding school." She told him.

"Knightly." He replied with a grin. "This isn't really helping you in history."

"Probably not, but you did say I was doing alright." Serena laughed. "So, why was this guy such a huge deal?"

"It's complicated." Chris began, "The Serbian nationalists were pissed off because they weren't getting what they wanted so they shot him. Germany declared war and it all just sort of toppled from there."

Serena added a few more points to her notes. "Oops." She said as her binder fell, spilling out papers everywhere. She moved from her chair and began recollecting them.

Chris reached down to help her pick up her papers. His hand accidentally brushed against hers and he blushed. "Sorry."

"No worries,' She said, looking straight into his eyes. She quickly looked away and got back into her chair.

Chris quickly looked away and flipped to a page in the book. "So, uhm... I'll see you next week? Same time and place?"

"Sure, or we could meet somewhere else." She shrugged. "It's up to you."
